Karen Parks Pratt

Karen Parks Pratt of Americus passed away on September 12, 2026.

A service will be held on Thursday, September 17, at 11:30 AM at Salem United Methodist Church. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 PM at Andersonville National Cemetery.

Born on July 24, 1951 in Macon, she was a daughter of Billy and Betty Parks.  Karen was the oldest of three sisters. A young woman known for her grace and kindness, she was voted Most Mannerly during her senior year at Taylor County High School.

Karen went on to attend Georgia Southwestern State University and began her teaching career in 1973 at Macon County Elementary School in Montezuma. She later transferred to the Sumter County Schools in Americus, where she devoted many years to educating and caring for children before retiring from Cherokee Elementary School in 2003.

On June 17, 1978, Karen married Tommy Pratt of Americus. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher at Salem United Methodist Church in Americus.

Karen found great joy in gardening, traveling with family and friends, and taking cherished "sister trips" with her siblings Regina and Teresa. Above all, she treasured time spent with her daughter, Anna, and with her many nieces and nephews.

Karen will be remembered for her kindness, grace, devotion to her family, and the many lives she touched throughout her years as an educator. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Betty Parks, and by her sister, Regina Peters.

Karen is survived by her husband, Tommy Pratt of Americus; her daughter, Anna Howard of Athens; her sister, Teresa Parks Jenkins (Joe) of Greenville, SC; three nephews; six nieces; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews residing throughout Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Massachusetts.
