With heavy hearts we announce the passing of James Barry Johnson, born on September 18, 1948, who left this world on April 20, 2025. Barry was a bright flame of life known for his humor and a heart that loved fiercely. Barry graduated from Americus High School in 1966 and South Georgia Tech in 1967.
He was a professional fishing guide who took many famous personalities, including President Carter, President George Bush Sr. and Bill Dance, to name a few.
He was an avid deer, turkey, and quail hunter. He got great joy out of sharing his love of the outdoors with both the young and the old alike.
Barry’s shining personality left an indelible mark on the lives he touched.
He is preceded in death by his parents James and Joyce Johnson.
He is survived by a loving wife, Sue Willingham Johnson, son David and Beckie Johnson, and two granddaughters: Violet and Catarina Johnson. He is survived by loving siblings; John and Joan Johnson, Jerry and Edwina Johnson, and Joy and Ronnie Riddle.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A reception is to be held afterwards at Barry’s home at 542 Watermelon Rd., Andersonville.
