John O. Williams, Jr. (Jay), (age 31) born July 11, 1980, died Saturday, June 30th due to injuries from a fall. Jay was a graduate of Georgia Southwestern State University with a degree in Exercise Science. He worked with the family peanut business, Williams Warehouse, in Plains, GA.
Jay was an avid sports enthusiast. He loved to run, climb, bike & canoe, and often participated in marathons, adventure races, and orienteering races. In the summer of 2010 , Jay rode a bicycle across the United States with the Ride-Well Tour Org. to raise money for water wells in Africa.
Jay loved woodworking like both of his grandfathers. Jay was very strong in his faith for the Lord. He served his Lord by serving others. He was involved in many churches, study groups, Chrysalis events and many Christian charities. Jay was an inspiration in so many ways to so many people and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his parents, Cindy and John Williams; his sister, Leigh Anne; his grandmother, Mae Legg; and his girlfriend, Amber Morey. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Virginia Williams, and his grandfather, Bob Legg.
A visitation will be held at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., on Monday, July 2nd from 6:00 pm – 7:30pm. Funeral services are Tuesday, July 3rd, at 10:00 am at Plains Baptist Church with graveside service to follow at Lebanon Cemetery in Plains.
